Retrospective

From the workshop

Before there were dragons to steer, cities to build, or unicorns requiring an unreasonable amount of creative attention, there were cards.

Palace, Hearts, Spades, and Euchre gave Four of Hearts its starting table. Familiar games. Different personalities. Plenty of opportunities to discover that “just make the cards work” is not, technically speaking, a development plan.

The important questions were wonderfully ordinary. Can you read your hand? Do you know whose turn it is? Does the game explain itself without delivering a lecture? Can you get to the enjoyable part before your tea becomes a historical artifact?

Those questions still follow us into every new project.

Four of Hearts became 4OH when the name was said out loud. No encrypted founder prophecy. No seventeen-slide branding revelation. Just a name that sounded right.

The ambitions have grown considerably. The basic test has not: does this feel good to use, and is it worth coming back for?

Pull up a chair. This is where the workbench story begins.
